They Tried But They Couldn’t Do It

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

A while back, about twenty years ago, there was a local history group interested in saving some old train cars left around the old train depot. That group never really got off the ground and the old train cars have been sitting ever since. (near Tulsa).

Local train fans tried to find a way to move the cars, or find a place for storage to no avail and the cars have since become scrap. The city itself had tried to find a way to salvage the depot and the train cars, but the building was too far gone to preserve and the cars just weren’t salable, even on Ebay.

At the very least the metal will be put to good use, recycled into something new. It’s still sad to see an old train go…

Is train travel the new green solution?

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Not in Oklahoma anyway.

Public transportation is fine IF you live in a place that has a good public transportation system. Now Oklahoma Citys is OK IF you live along a bus route. Keep in mind, Oklahoma City is huge, second in size only to Jacksonville Florida. Here, youll find us spread out a good twenty plus miles in each direction. Were a good 600 square miles! Thats a lot of driving any way you look at it.train tracks

The train? The train goes from downtown Oklahoma City to Ft Worth. The first stop south is a suburb, Norman. The schedule, as far as I can tell starts in OKC then goes south, then turns around and comes back. So, conceivably, one could live near downtown and work in Norman, but only if you dont have to be at work til after 9am or want to return home until after 9 the same day. Just wont work for most people.

Thats why almost everyone in Oklahoma drives themselves to work.

Not very green is it?
