Anheuser-Busch recently announced that it’s Newark brewery was getting a solar array covering 65,000 square feet and incorporating more than 3,000 photovoltaic solar panels. At peak solar gain, the panels will be able to produce about five percent of the brewery’s electricity demand.
These solar panels will produce more than 525,000 kilowatt hours annually, which is enough to power 62 average New Jersey homes for a year.
Orion Energy Systems designed, installed and will operate, monitor and maintain the array. As part of the project, Anheuser-Busch entered into an agreement with Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) to host a solar power plant at the Newark brewery. PSE&G will offer Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to businesses or individuals to help offset their use of fossil fuel energy and greenhouse gas emissions.
Anheuser-Busch has taken many steps over the years to lighten its environmental impact by expanding the use of natural resources and energy.
