It’s the Real Thing

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

And now Coke is out to save the world, one environmentally friendlier bottle at a time.

Coke’s working on a new bottle, one that’s a little more earth-friendly and one that utilizes less plastic.

The new bottle, PlantBottle, replaces the typical petroleum based bottle with a blend of petroleum based materials and up to thirty percent of plant based materials.

The first Coke product to be introduced in the new bottles will be their Dasani water, with carbonated drinks to follow later in the year.

Look for it soon at a store near you.

Eco-Friendly Fabric

Friday, February 13th, 2009

I received a postcard in the mail from a company trying to sell me a big banner for my business. I just almost tossed it when I noticed the words “Eco-Friendly”.  That caught my attention!

Seems there’s a whole new earth-friendly material that trade show and other banners are created with. That eco-friendly material? Recycled soda bottles.soda bottles

This new fabric is of the non-woven variety and made completely from recycled soda bottles.

This new eco-friendly fabric has the capacity to keep about 3 billion plastic PET soda bottles out of the world’s landfills each year, saving over 1/2 million barrels of oil and eliminating 400,000 tons of harmful air emissions. The amount of petroleum saved by using post-consumer bottles instead of virgin materials in the manufacturing process annually is enough to supply power to a large city.

It takes about 700 years for a soda bottle to break down in a landfill. Help keep these bottles out of landfills by buying items made with recycled bottles, like a trade show banner.

(The company that sent me the postcard was bannercreations.com .  While I’m not in the market for a banner, I’ll certainly remember them when I need one!)
