Local Car Dealership Goes Green

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

wind generatorHave you driven down I-35 in Norman, past the new Marc Heitz Chevrolet lot? Well, you should.

This dealership boasts the cream of the crop in energy efficiency.

They’ve installed a wind generator! Ever saw a wind generator at a new car dealer? Me either! They plan on using the power generated from the wind system to power the LED lights signage. They’ve installed a high efficiently air conditioning system and used insulated glass on all the exterior walls.

Their landscaping includes over 370 trees and incorporates a rainwater cistern as its water source.

There are no solar panels on the building, at least not yet, that’s still in the planning stages. They’re also considering adding a Flex Fuel station.

Inside, they are installing a 40 foot waterfall that cascades into a 5000 gallon aquarium, outside, they are building an amphitheatre.

What else could they think of?

Well, they also included TWO dog parks (for the customers bringing their canine friends) and a huge playground for the kiddos!

Mark Heitz is certainly thinking outside the normal ‘car dealership’ box!

What’s Green at Ted’s Esconditio?

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Well the guacamole for one.  :)

We visited the Ted’s Escondito in Norman Saturday for the very first time. We got there ahead of the lunch rush and ahead of the OU football crowd, although there was a lot of OU red in the room.

We were greeted by the manager, Rocky, and promptly seated. They brought chips and salsa, and some hot veggies and some green hot chopped peppers. Then they brought us warm flour tortillas and a bowl of fresh guacamole. YUM! They brought our drinks and took our order very promptly.

When the food arrived we were pleasantly surprised. I ordered a side of steamed beans instead of the refried beans and rice. My plate was overflowing! My entrée was the chicken and beef tamales. Yum!

We were offered sopapillas but we turned them down. Our wait staff (BJ & Dustin) were pleasant, observant and helpful.

We will be back.

Oh and there’s a cool tv ‘behind’ the mirror in the restroom!
