Look for Eco-Friendly Products & Companies

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Getting ready to build your environmentally friendly home?

Consider an eco-friendly cement supplier for your concrete foundation.

Cemex, Inc. manufacturers some of the most innovative cement products I’ve ever come across. You’ll find concrete that self compacts. It has a dense makeup that aids in the overall strength and durability of the final product, thereby reducing labor costs and energy usage.

They also make porous concrete. This product is instrumental in helping with rainwater runoff. Water naturally filters through the product helping to reduce flooding and helps to reduce heat buildup.

Their rapid set concrete is made with up to eighty percent fly ash, a low-carbon alternative to normal concrete,

Their high acid resistance concrete is perfect for barns and their antibacterial product helps control bacteria growth also a boon to farmers.

The company cares about the environment. Their sustainability report (available on their website) shows just how much. They’re investing monies in quarry rehabilitation, in reductions in air emissions and in water conservation.

Cemex California has a great interest in wilderness ecosystems and has purchased nearly 120,000 hectares of land (and in agreements with adjacent land owners for 60,000 more) to establish habitat restoration and wildlife management programs including the re-introduction of the desert bighorn to the area.

When you’re building your home you have to consider the purchase of every component, it just makes ecological sense to buy building materials that come from eco-friendly companies.
