Canadian’s Green Grocery Bags

April 13th, 2012

Americans are not the only people deeply concerned about recyclable packaging.

Today, at an average grocery store, here in the US, you’ll find one in five customers have brought their own washable, reusable grocery bags. While that’s not a lot, it’s certainly an improvement

But it looks like Canadians overall have us beat. It looks like the average Canadian (and parts of the pacific northwest) have embraced the tote bag and use them much more frequently than the average US consumer.

Are they more green than us? Maybe more aware? Perhaps more available? Canadian biodegradable bags are a great alternative to regular polyethylene (recycled plastic bottles turned into bags) and better for the environment. These bags have an additive which helps them break down faster in the landfill. Degradation is triggered by UV, heat, and stress and then biodegrades into CO2, water and biomass.

Kudos to our Canadian friends!

The Grass is Greener

April 11th, 2012

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Scotts® for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

How’s your yard look?

my yard

When you live out in the country like we do, you can get by with a not so manicured lawn, but you still want it to look nice. Right now, the neighbors grass is greener than ours.

Ours looks pretty good right after we mow, and from a distance. But once you get up close you can see that our ‘lawn’ is really just a ‘yard’. The green is only partly grass.  The rest is, well, weeds.  There’s clover and chickweek, and henbit and crabgrass.

Come spring, once we start spending more time outside, I dig out the old spreader out of the barn and take a go at weeding and feeding the yard.  Part of the problem with that is the spreader will sometimes spread evenly and sometimes just dump a whole bunch of whatever I’m spreading in a big pile in the yard.

Not very efficient.

I saw a tv commercial the other day for a new spreader, one that the bag just snaps right onto.  No mess.  No fuss. No spills. No headaches.  It was the Scotts® Snap® Spreader System and it sure looks like a yard’s dream come true!

The care and feeding of the grass would be SO much easier.  Snap Lock and GO and you get a great lawn in a SNAP!  -  Imagine, if you will, a  no mess, no guess spreader system.  The Snap Pac connects directly to the Snap Spreader – no cutting, no opening and no pouring from heavy bags – no spilling or waste!
The system auto-sets the proper flow rate. No Spreader settings required! It also has a unique EdgeGuard feature that keeps product where you want it…. on the yard!
Best of all – when you’re done, the Snap Pac self-seals upon removal making it easy to store – No more half empty bags on the garage floor.

AND Scotts has a Snap perks on Facebook which began on March 7, 2012. Go on and “like” Scotts ® Facebook page for the chance to win amazing prizes!

Read how other folks learned of, used and benefited from the new easy system!

Looks like I need to make a stop this weekend at my local home and garden center and get one for myself!  Then the grass will be greener (and thicker) on my side of the fence.

Energy Saving Time

March 22nd, 2012

These days it’s becoming more and more apparent that people aren’t wearing watches anymore, especially the young adults. They don’t see the need when they have a phone in their pocket with an easy to read time on it.

Course the watch wearers of the word realize that you save ‘time’ by glancing at your wrist!

You don’t ever have to worry about a slowly dieing cell phone, or a dead watch battery when you go solar.

Today’s watches, (Today I’m specifically referring to Citizen Eco drive watches) can be solar powered. Think about it, a solar powered watch never needs a battery replaced. Your solar powered watch will garner it’s juice from the sun, or even from your overhead lights in your home or office. The energy is stored in an Eco-Drive energy cell. Recharging is effortless, charges constantly (under ANY light source), causing your solar watch to run, practically forever.

We can teach the younger generation a thing or two about energy conservation, as well as how to always be on time. Your solar powered watch will save you when your phone dies on you.

Saves money.

Saves energy.

Saves time!
