It was Sucker Day today in Wetumka Oklahoma.
Several decades ago, the town was conned into gearing up for a circus and the promoter ran off with the funds. Since the town already bought food, balloons and other goods they decided to celebrate their bad fortune. Sucker Day was born.
Turn a bad thing into a fortunate thing.

Sucker Day
It was a nice drive over to Wetumka, rolling hills, and no traffic. Once we found Wetumka, we parked and walked Main street, taking in all the booths and people.

window
There were lots of missing buildings down Main Street, and lots of boarded up places. Still the residents were having themselves a blast of a time.

durham
Old stone walls, with decades old advertisements. Such is small town America.

feed store
We passed the feed store, the drug store and a hardware store. You could tell we were in Indian country as there was a tiny casino right in the middle of town. I was glad I wore my Naot sandals, as the sidewalk was rapidly storing and reflecting the noon-time sun.

Lots of dilapidated buildings. Some they tried to doctor up a bit. Just came out looking strange though…

walls
More stone walls, where an adjacent building had long since fallen or burned. Must have been lots of stone around a hundred years ago.
But, every one in town was smiling big time! There were tractors to see, booths with hand made items, I saw soap, and pot scrubbers, cakes, cookies, pies for $10, and they were handing out, what else but suckers!

times
So, if you’re ever in the area – around the last weekend in September, be sure to visit the Sucker Day festival.
