Here’s what’s happening at the Oklahoma Sierra Club the next few weeks:
* August 19 – General Meeting – 7:00 pm – Java Dave’s, upstairs – 10 NE 10th, OKC. Our speaker will be Jeri Fleming, Project Manager, Oklahoma Water Resources Research Institute. She is responsible for public outreach as Oklahoma develops its comprehensive water plan.
* August 21st -Pool Party! Swim-Visit-Eat-Sing! – Saturday, August 21st – 4:00 p.m. till ??? – Neil Garrison’s & Becky Simpkins’s House – 12601 N. Cemetery Rd—Yukon.
* August 26th, 7PM – Sierra Club Social & Film Screening – The Oklahoma Chapter of the Sierra Club is hosting a social event featuring local foods, local beers and local music to spread the word about the Oklahoma Sierra Club, its programs, activities, and opportunities for involvement. The event will include a screening of the short documentary, “In the Air We Breathe” featuring the environmental and public health issues resulting from coal ash disposal in Oklahoma. * August 28, 2010 American Heart Association First Aid /CPR Training in Moore, Oklahoma. 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM. Cost is $20, valid for 2 years, must be 14 years old +. Contact Traci Schaeffer @ at tracischaeffer@gmail.com to register.
* August 29th – Outings Meeting – Sunday the 29th at Adrianne Holmes’ home in Edmond, Oklahoma. 1010 Locust Lane Edmond, OK. Pot luck dinner starts at 5:30 PM followed by a short meeting to finalize our fall and winter outing schedule and discuss October 16th – annual Round Up. Bring a dish, lots of stories, pictures and ideas to share with everyone. The main dish will be provided. All are welcome to attend, not just Outings Leaders.

* September 18 & 19 – Cabin Retreat Near Quartz Mountain State Park, SW Oklahoma. Enjoy a relaxing weekend hiking and birding in the beautiful Quartz Mountain section of the Wichita Mountains. * September 22 — Urban Outing to celebrate the arrival of Fall — Dinner at 7:00 PM at Royal Bavaria Restaurant in Moore. Let’s spend another evening eating dinner together so we might get to know each other better as we share our memories, dreams, and hopes. A chance to learn more about our Mother Earth at this season change as we continue to explore and enjoy our planet Earth. And, of course, this coming together to celebrate the arrival of fall gives a chance to eat with friends. * September 26, 2010, Day Hike in the Wichita Wildlife Refuge. Activities will run from ~12:45pm to ~4:45pm We’ll explore upper Mount Scott, check out the visitor center, and hike to the boulder field in the Charon’s Garden Wilderness Area. This trail involves scrambling and boulder hopping in some areas. Difficulty level is moderate.
