The Capitol complex boats TWO 10-KW wind turbines. The two, one at the governors mansion and one near the Department of Human Services should produce aprx 15,000 kw each year. Plans are also underway to add geothermal, energy efficient lighting, and solar.

DCS also reported a savings of 15-20% on water, gas, electricity consumption for the 9 month period ending 3-31 compared to the prior year.

Norman Fair Trade

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Norman was recently announced as Oklahoma’s first Fair Trade Town.

This past May, the city council approved a resolution making Norman the first fair trade city in Oklahoma. The fair trade action supports buying fair trade goods that are produced locally, or if purchased elsewhere, that meet fair trade standards.

The passed resolution is the result of a 2-year campaign by Norman Fair Trade, a volunteer group. They believe in “Buy Local and Buy Fair” and now their actions have paid off with Norman becoming the first Fair Trade city.

Who’s next?
