Wind Farms

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

I live on top of a hill in windy Oklahoma.

You can see for miles from on top of our hill, it’s the perfect spot for a wind generator, or a wind farm.

I’d love to generate all of my own electricity, I’d feel better about using electricity to run everything in the house. (No natural gas lines here in the country.)

I would also love to see someone provide an easy to find, easy to use chart that would tell the average Joe just how much or how big of a wind generator they’d need. Some easy way to tell if you need a small unit or a whopping monster on top of your own hill.

I’ve seen some wind units that were on a vertical access where it wasn’t obvious that it was a generator, and I’ve seen some pretty amazing designs. Anyone remember the vertical axis spinning one that use to be on I:35 near Norman? It was amazing to watch. There are SO many different designs available now too, not just ‘windmill’ shaped turbines. It would also be nice to see the differences explained.

Where’s a wind guy when you need one?
