Safe Water Bottles

Friday, February 19th, 2010

We’ve all heard about the hazards that some plastic water bottles have. We love the ease and convenience that plastic bottles afford us in toting water around with us on the go, and we love that fact that they don’t break if we accidentally knock them over. But now we’ve learned that we need to be aware of the kind of plastic that the water container is made of. We need to make certain that the chemicals in the plastic don’t leach into the water. If you can taste the plastic, you are probably drinking it.

There are many different kinds of plastic bottles. The different ones are noted by the number on the bottom of the container. Most bottled water comes in a #1 plastic bottle and are typically only recommended for one time use. Do not refill it. Better to use a reusable water bottle, and fill it with your own filtered water from home and keep these single-use bottles out of the landfill. In fact you should check the recycling numbers on all your plastic food containers as well, and gradually move to storing all food in glass or ceramic and then store your water in glass or brass if possible, and out of direct sunlight

Many of us have since opted for metal containers to carry our water around in. Have you seen the sigg bottles?

The sigg bottles are manufactured by the Swiss so you KNOW they are quality. They’re made from a single piece of aluminum and are rugged, crack-resistant and so so versatile. Best of all? They’re safe from leaching plastic!

You can also find klean kanteen bottles accessories such as stainless looped caps, even wide mouth stainless caps.

Think green. Many more items are now available from renewable resources, you can even now buy bamboo towels! How cool is that?
