Once, a long time ago, I attempted to make my own Christmas cards. The look I was going for was ‘the family’ on a magazine cover. This was ‘before’ the digital age.
I set my 35mm camera up on a tripod, got the family all together, and took lots of photos.

I sent the film off to be developed. Then I picked thru all the photos to find one that was the best. I then sent that photo off to be enlarged to a 8×10.
While I waited on the enlargement to return I took Christmas magazines with appropriate covers, one with a wreath, one with a fireplace and took an exacto knife to them, creating a space for us to be embedded in the image.
Once the enlargement returned I put ‘us’ inside the magazine that I’d cut out and then set the camera back up on a tripod and took photos of the magazine/photo.
Then I sent that film off and waited.

Those became the basis for our Christmas card.
You can do something similar today with far less effort. You can upload a photo, see the results and with just a click you can order your Christmas photo cards.
I still sometimes miss my old faithful 35mm, but the digital age has made all this much faster, easier and greener on the environment.
