Green Your Wedding

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Have you considered a green wedding? You can add elements of green to your wedding easily.

Narrow your guest list. The less people attending, the less out of your pocket and the less consumables they use up.

Consider going local. A rose garden in the park, a nicely trimmed backyard pavilion or arbor, even the beach.

Use local businesses. For instance if you were planning a beach wedding you should check online for a local photographer, a local restaurant’s cook or chef, a small local band, flowers from the flower stall downtown… the list goes on.

Choose local foods. Less energy is consumed in bringing them to the table. Go organic if possible. Check out your local farmers market for fresh foods, local fruits and organic cheeses. Be sure to donate any leftovers to a local shelter.

Utilize the latest in recycled papers and soy ink for your invitations.

Be creative in your search for sources that are a little bit greener. You’ll start your marriage off on the right foot.

Did you know that Dell has a computer recycling program? It’s called ReConnect and it’s run through Goodwill (in many states). Over 1400 Goodwill donation centers have joined forces with computer giant Dell to help recycle computers. Dell has saved much of these donated components from ending up in the landfill.

Any brand of computer is accepted.

You can find your closest Goodwill that accepts donated computers at this url: http://reconnectpartnership.com/

There’s a new company called Gridlock Solar Security that has come up with an ingenious way to secure your precious solar panels. Their system involves a wiring grid installed on the arrays themselves. Removal of the panel causes lights and an alarm to go off. It works similar to a home security system, and alerts you via phone as well as the appropriate law agency.

The cost is destined to be low, about one percent of the cost of a typical solar setup.

Protect your solar panels now!
