‘Workin’ at the Carwash’

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

One Oklahoma City firm has gone to the wind. Eco Express Car Wash has built a wind turbine to help provide electrical assistance. The Windspire turbine is 30 feet tall, propeller-less and designed to grab the wind and turn it into power with a vertical design. It’s unobtrusive and touted to generate a full kilowatt.

The overall cost was around ten grand, but, that money will quickly be recouped in energy savings.

No More Solar Inverters!

Friday, July 24th, 2009

GreenRay Solar is in the funding stages of development of a new kind of solar inverter technology. The current solar systems provide DC power which uses an inverter to convert it to AC power. Their new system integrates a built in inverter in each power cell sending AC directly.

What does this mean for the person wanting to build their own solar system? Plenty! No more inverters!

This new technology, with the built in modular system, allows for each cell to be maintained separate from the others. One bad cell won’t spoil the whole batch.

The new system will cost more money, at least initially. The new technology has the potential to revolutionize the way that solar systems work. You can find out more about their modular system on their website, http://www.greenraysolar.com
