A recent European study revealed that 74% of those polled preferred glass for packaging, over plastic.
Well anyone who remembers soda from the gas station’s coke cooler will testify. Soda’s taste better in glass. Nothing finer than an almost frozen Dr Pepper in a glass bottle.
There’s talk of a switchover from plastic to glass bottles for juice and milk. Aw, remember the taste of milk out of glass?
A similar study in the US confirmed that glass packaging was preferred because of it’s ability to preserve flavor.
The problems? Well glass is heavy so it costs more to ship resulting in a higher than average carbon footprint. Glass recycles but community recycling doesn’t stand to benefit as much because of the higher transportation costs as well as the less payment received for the glass.
Just the same, wouldn’t you pay just a little more for the flavor we’d all get from our foods back in glass?
