Thursday, February 19th, 2009

“Organic buildings are the strength and lightness of the spiders’ spinning, buildings qualified by light, bred by native character to environment, married to the ground.

You Go ‘green’ Girl!

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

My greenness is starting to rub off on a friend!

Today, she was headed off to a local school to do some tutoring.  She was carrying a stack of scratch printer paper for the school to use.paper

She’s started saving all her used printer paper that’s only printed on one side.  When she gets a stack, she takes it to the school.  I was there when she handed over the paper. The school was MOST appreciative.

This just goes to show that people do notice our green initiatives and we do inspire greenness in others!

Green Cell Phones

Is it time to replace your old cell phone?wet cell phone

There are a couple of new cell phones that are greener.

A new cell phone from Nokia has a built in sensor that can tell the level of light in the surrounding area. The sensor will then tell the phone to turn down the light level that it emits, thus saving energy. Saving energy means less recharging.

An additional green feature of these new Nokia phones is that when it’s completely charged, it will beep. You can then unplug the charger from the wall to save energy.

T-Mobile has a new Motorola phone called ReNew. This phone is made from recycled water bottles! As an added plus, the entire phone can be recycled. To complete their new green solution, the phone comes in a package made entirely from recycled paper.

Motorola also offers to offset the carbon emissions from the manufacturing of these new carbon neutral phones. The payments will go to help a landfill in Massachusetts catch and reuse methane gas.

Not to be outdone, Sony has a concept phone called GreenHeart made from recycled biodegradable parts. The wall charger uses a fraction of the energy of most chargers when plugged in, but not connected to a phone. (It’s always the best policy to unplug a wall charger when not in use.)

ZTE and Digicel are planning a release of a solar powered phone this week.

If you’re in the market for a new cell phone be sure to keep these new greener cell phones in mind.
